Helping the Coastguard be there of us

As the second largest maritime search and rescue unit in New Zealand, Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard is dedicated to making the Bay of Plenty waterways a safer place for boaties. In last year alone, the unit received more than 23,000 radio calls, assisted 180 call-outs and clocked up more than 14,700 volunteer hours.

Funded mostly by member subscriptions and generous sponsors, Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard relies on these donations to keep its vessels in the water.

During September 2010, Bayfair helped the Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard spread the word about boating and water safety while supportingthe heroic work it does in the community. On Father's Day the centre hosted a special day out for the whole family, including 10 minute seminars on boating and water safety, a donate to dip competition and a chance to nominate their favourite store window displaying a nautical theme.

This event also launched a month of fundraising within the Centre and an opportunity for shoppers to win some outstanding prizes in the Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard raffle.
