Bayfair Shopping Centre is committed to ensuring that it's everyday operations are conducted in a sustainable manner.
During the last few years processes have been implemented to educate retailers and shoppers alike to become more sustainable during the working day and at home.
The journey has been exciting and one which continually evolves. Read on to see some great results recorded to date along the way.
- Bayfair’s Energy Management and Recycling Programme has resulted in the reduction of the Centre’s carbon footprint by 22% since 2003.
- The Bayfair Recycling Programme diverts 45% of the Centre’s waste from landfill.
- Bayfair recycles over 150 sacks of shrink wrap each year… This is enough to spread over 46 rugby pitches.
- Over 50 tonnes of organic waste is diverted from landfill each year… This is the equivalent to more than 240,000 burgers!
- 164 tonnes of cardboard is diverted from landfill each year…This saves 2789 trees!
- Energy consumption has been reduced by over 1.4 million kilowatt hours… This is equivalent to unplugging Bayfair for 6 months!
- Bayfair diverts 40 tonnes of paper from landfill each year…This is equal to the weight of a mature mammoth.
- Approx. 180,000 plastic bottles are diverted from landfill each year …This provides recycled fibre to fill 27,800 jackets.
